Investigation of Medication Errors: Cause and Occurrence Study

Abstract

|
This study of hospitalized patients medication errors was done by collecting data from nurses and patients and doing a statistical study of the existing situation. The study analyzes the nursed ability to prevent the medication errors and not
have
an
accident.
The study also analyzed the factors of nurses experience, patients awareness and preparation of an accident occurring.
The data was collected in a study done in 1995 from April 5th to June 10th and involved 66 nurses and 96 patients. A questionnaire was used at 2 different times to investigate medication errors and the situation analyzed of 444 errors.
The nurses ability to prevent medication errors before an accident occurring is the foundation for quality improvement and efficient patient management.
